Plnty's City Guides: The Hague
My friend Lotte knows what's good to do with kids
This guide is part of Plnty’s global City Guide series — written by friends on the ground, mothers who know what actually works with kids. Think of them as tried-and-tested picks for seeing the world with little ones, and finding fresh inspiration wherever you go next.
Moving to The Hague was one of the best decisions for me — for us. Sometimes you don’t realise you need more nature in your life, until you do.
The beauty of this city is its versatility. With two small children and a freelance creative career, my days never look the same and The Hague always has the right spot for whatever chaos or calm we’re in.
Here are my go-tos with Freddie (3) and Keesje (1.5):
Pompke
Our pitstop on the way to the forest. Quirky quotes on the walls, old-school toys for the kids, and great coffee with croissants or toasties. It’s all outdoors, which somehow makes everything taste better.
Binkies + De Boomhuttenclub
Rare kid-friendly cafés where you don’t leave drained. Good food, good coffee, nice interiors — and you could actually open your laptop here (if the kids allow it).
Café Constant
Right next to the kinderboerderij (animal farm), perfect for a quick snack and a glass of wine while the kids run off their last bit of energy.
The Beach
Because swings and slides at Patagonia, Manta, or Hart Beach = guaranteed toddler happiness.
Bike Ride to Boerderij Meyendel
Cycle through the dunes: spotting sheep, cows, maybe even wild horses and end with pancakes and playground time (or a climb through Monkey Forest).
The Forests
So many to choose from, each with its own magic:
Zandspeeltuin Scheveningse Bosjes
Speeltuin Arendsdorp
Landgoed Clingendael
Museum Voorlinden
Ride out to explore the art garden, then coffee while the kids play outside by the tent.
See you around! x Lotte

Mooie stad achter de Duinen!
